Fieldwork at Wamberal Ruins

Secondary Tuesday, 15 Feb 2022

Year 12 Geography students completed their unit on Ecosystems at Risk by visiting Wamberal Ruins.

Through conducting fieldwork activities such as sand nourishment, students could see how this dynamic environment's functioning is vulnerable.

Mrs Fiona Beams

Secondary Teacher (Geography)

On Monday, February 14, our Year 12 Geography class went on a field trip to the Wamberal dunes. This trip provided us with the opportunity to learn more about coastal dunes and how the ecosystem is at risk due to both human and natural impacts. We met at the ruins and were fortunate enough to have two amazing ladies from the Central Coast Marine Park Discovery Centre who provided details about dune ecosystems and helped us with fieldwork activities. It was a great experience seeing the vulnerability of the dune ecosystem first-hand after learning about it in class.
