Application for Exemption from Attendance at School
Short Absence

Students who are absent from school are to bring in a note or have an email sent by parents explaining their absence on the day they return to school. The note must clearly explain the reason for the absence, the date of the absence and be signed by the parent. There is no need to ring the school for every absence except if the student will be away for an extended period (eg. more than 2 days or for a serious matter such as emergency hospitalisation or family matter). Parents may be contacted if there are concerns about a child’s absence from school.

Extended Absence

Students taking extended leave from school under certain criteria must now complete an Application for Exemption from Attendance at School form. A Certificate of Exemption will be forwarded to you if leave is granted. This application is used for:

  • Family holiday/travel for 5 or more days
  • Direction under Section 43D of the Public Health Act 1991 (eg. diagnosis of contracting vaccine preventable illness)
  • Employment in the entertainment industry
  • Participation in elite sporting event (state or national level only)

Application for Exemption from Attendance at School forms are also available from the Administration Office. Once the application form has been accepted by the Principal a Certificate of Exemption will be issued to parents and this should be with the student during the period of leave.
