Course Summary
Design and Technology focuses on creativity, innovation, and the successful design and production of products and systems. Students explore factors affecting product design, learn to identify and analyse needs and opportunities for new product development. They will learn to use computer-aided design (CAD) and a range of materials including timber, metal, plastics, electronics, and 3d printing. Entrepreneurial techniques to turn these designed products into a business opportunity will also be studied.


The course offers a high level of student choice in project direction and materials. It includes two design projects in Year 11 and a major design project in Year 12. Large practical component with some theory and an exam.

What, if any, skills are needed?

There are no prerequisites for this subject, although an interest in problem solving and design is beneficial.
